Busy Week

It has been a busy week. I've done some new things this week . . . one that was really fun and one that I thought I would never say that I've done. First for the fun one: Wednesday LeAnn and I met at The Dinner A'fare and prepared meals together. You pay for 12 meals so we each made 6. They have all the ingredients at different stations in the store. You go to the station for the meal that you are going to prepare and follow the directions they have posted at the station. You prepare everything in ziploc bags and then wrap it all up in Saran wrap and place the directions for cooking in the package so it's ready to place in your freezer when you get home. They also give you a sheet that gives you suggested sides to serve with your main dish. LeAnn and I really enjoyed it and I plan on going back again sometime. Joe and I had the Buffalo chicken with blue cheese dressing Friday night. I also prepared Stuffed Chicken with Spinach and Red peppers, Caribbean Tilapia with Coconut Rice, Honey-Vanilla Glazed pork tenderloin, Walnut and cheddar stuffed pork chops, and chicken tetrazzini. Yummy!

Now on to the new experience I wasn't planning on . . . Joe took Bud to the vet on Wednesday for his annual shots and the vet told him Bud REALLY needed to get his teeth cleaned so they ran blood work on him to make sure everything looked o.k. since Bud would have to be under anesthesia and they also needed to get a urine sample, but couldn't because Bud had probably left his mark about 100 times at the front of the vet. So, guess who had to get a urine sample from Bud later that week to take to the vet . . . yes that would be me! They gave us a syringe to get the sample into a small container. So I just waited until he went outside and walked around with him and when he started to go I just placed a small bowl under him . . .what a hoot! Don't worry . . . . I threw the bowl away when I was done. So now I have that on my list of experiences in life!
Bud is scheduled to get his teeth cleaned on Oct 18. We also have to start giving him antibiotics 5 days before they clean his teeth because of the bacteria that has already built up . . . having a dog sure is expensive sometimes. . . .but what can I say . . . we sure do love him!

Today we went to the North Georgia State Fair. This is the third year we've gone with friends from church. We always go on the last day when admission is free and free rides from 10:00 to 11:00. Emily and I rode on the carousel, Joe and I rode the Himalayan and then Tara and I rode the Himalayan (I was dizzy after the 2nd time), and then Jason and I rode the ferris wheel. We got all those rides in by 11:00 so they were all free! We also had our share of fair food: corn dogs, polish dogs, roasted corn, boiled peanuts, and a funnel cake . . . good times!

New Car Seat

We got Emily a new car seat today. She looks like such a big girl in her new seat!
I don't know why, but girlfriend decided to wake up at 5:00 a.m. this morning . . .ahh! She's been sleeping until 7:30 or 8:00 for months and then starting last week she started waking up at 6:00 or 6:30 . . . and then today she woke up at 5:00 . . . whew . . . anyway, I went ahead and fed her and she went back to sleep. I sure do hope she sleeps longer in the morning.

The last two Mondays I've been taking a smocking class. Last Monday we practiced and then tonight we started on a dress. I've tried sewing before and just don't enjoy it . . . but I've really liked smocking so far. The lady that taught the class will put the dresses together for me and I can smock them . . . yea! I'm looking forward to making some dresses for Emily. Here is what I worked on tonight. Hopefully I can post a picture of Emily wearing this dress really soon:

Watching some football

Joe and Emily enjoyed watching some football together yesterday afternoon.

I also got a couple of good pictures of her teeth. She has 6 teeth now that have broken thru.

She is also crawling a lot more now. That girl can get into anything now. She goes straight for the cords in the computer room and knocked over an angel that I had in the living room. We had been putting her humidifier next to her bed when it was unplugged but Joe went to get her from her nap the other day and she had pulled the cord into the bed and was playing with it!

Visit from PawPaw and DeeDee

My parents came for a visit this weekend. They brought the new furniture that we had purchased. So we now have a new couch! Mom also wanted to go to a quilt show Saturday at the Cobb County Civic Center so we did that Saturday morning. Of course Emily got a 20 minute cat nap in the car on the way home so girlfriend decided she wasn't going to take a nap that afternoon either. It made for an interesting evening . . . she didn't do too bad . . . but Sunday morning at church was hard for her. Over the last week she has become more aware and it's been harder for her to take naps . . . and if she falls asleep in her car seat at all then the chances of her getting a nap at home are pretty much over. She is about to cut a 6th tooth. I can't believe it! I think by tomorrow it will break through.

Here's a picture of Emily hanging out with mom and dad on our new couch:

Guess what I'm doing tonight? I'm taking a beginner's smocking class. I'm looking forward to it. It's tonight and next Monday night. So I will smock the dress for Emily and my mom will put the dress together. I'm so excited! I'll let you know how I do. I think I will enjoy it because I've always enjoyed cross stitching. I just can't do the sewing thing . . . I've tried like 3 times over the years and just don't enjoy it. But if I can smock Emily some dresses and my mom can put them together at least I will have some part in the making of her outfits.

Saying Goodbye

Today we said goodbye to the couch we've had since we got married. This was the first piece of furniture that we bought together . . . it lasted for over 12 years . . . I think that's pretty good in the couch world. We donated it to the Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta . . . as they rolled it to their truck I wondered who would get to sit or sleep on our couch. I even got to sleep on it one last time last night because Emily woke me up coughing and I couldn't go back to sleep because Joe was snoring in my ear : ). So it was nice to get to sleep on there one more time. This couch was a very popular choice in the mid 90s. I know of 4 other people that had this same couch.
We also got our carpets cleaned today. I wanted to get that done now that little Miss Emily is crawling. She has a head cold right now. Her poor little eyes were so swollen today and she "oozed" from her nose all day. I gave her some tylenol tonight . . . I hope her cold goes away soon. She did crawl some more today . . . she looks so little crawling on the floor!

Trying to pull up

Emily was on a mission today . . . she tried to pull up on everything! I guess she started taking a few steps crawling and decided to jump straight to pulling up on everything she could get her little hands on. Here is how I found her this morning when she woke up. She's actually been pulling up in her crib for the past few nights. I lay her down and about 10 minutes later she starts fussing and when I go in there she's holding onto the side of the crib and doesn't know how to get back down. So I have to lay her back down . . .

She also discovered the handle on the coffee table and pulled up on it several times.
And of course once she got up she was stuck and was looking at me saying . . . hey mom . . . .how do I get back down to the floor? Help!

Another Emily First!

I took Emily to Target today and put her in the shopping cart instead of her carrier. She did so well! I couldn't resist getting a picture of her : ) I know the people in the parking lot at Target got a good laugh watching me take a picture of my baby sitting up in the shopping cart. I also couldn't resist her wearing her matching hat with this outfit . . . she kept it on the whole time and got lots of compliments in the store.

When I got home I put her down to bring in the bags and look at what I captured. Click on the link below to watch a short video:

Loving her pacifier

I thought for a while that Emily was only going to need her pacifier when she was ready for bed or when she was tired . . . but lately she grabs it wherever she is and puts it in her mouth. I noticed this the other day when there were several toys on the bed and she kept going for the pacifier and putting it in her mouth!

This morning when she woke up I went into her room and she was up on her knees holding onto the side of the baby bed! Thank goodness we lowered the bed a couple of weeks ago or she would have been over the side. She actually took a couple of little bitty "steps" this morning on her hands and knees trying to crawl . . . it was so much fun to watch.

Being Outside

I took a couple of pictures of Emily outside the other day. She gave me lots of smiley pictures and then got really interested in the grass and her feet as you can see. She is definitely becoming more curious of her surroundings. When I get her out of her crib each morning she has to lean over and touch all the animals on her mobile now. When I hold her she is constantly moving all around trying to see what's around her and what she can try to grab : )

Sunday morning

Emily woke up in a good mood this morning! She has done a lot better the last couple of days. I think it's been because Joe has been home in the evenings and she got to eat her dinner a couple of times out at restaurants and enjoyed watching all the people around her. She also had a good time at church this morning and at Life Group watching all the people . . . maybe she'll be a social butterfly like her mom : )
