Play time

Today, several of us got together with friends that moved away several years ago. We met at our church and had planned on letting the kids play on the playground but it's been raining all day today . . . so we all crammed into the 2 year old classroom. The noise level was CRAZY but it was fun for all of us to catch up with Angela and Cindy and to see their children:

Emily has been hit or miss on her naps this week. She didn't take a nap on Tuesday and didn't take a nap today either. Right now it's o.k. because she is still in a baby bed and plays while I work . . . but oh what to do when we move her to a big girl bed in a few weeks . . . I think my glory days of working part time while she naps might be coming to an end . . .

Indoor Play

We met Emily's friend Julia at an indoor play area today. The girls enjoyed seeing each other and running from place to place:

We found out today that Julia and Emily will be in the same class at school starting in a few weeks so I know Emily will be excited!

Singing

It has been a CRAZY week so I haven't posted anything on the blog. Last night after Emily's bath she kept singing "Do a deer . . . " so I got it on video. Each night before bed we have to pick out a new animal to sleep with and then she picks out songs to sing. For the past few nights it's been this song. Enjoy!

Playing in the Sand

Yesterday morning several people from church took their children to an indoor play area. So Emily and I met them there. The main area is a big ol' sand box. Emily has never played in the sand so she had a big time. It was hard for her to jump in the jump zones because of the big kids so after a few times on the slides she enjoyed this:

I took this picture the other day while she was napping . . . I love seeing children sleep . . . they are so cute:Giving up the pacis was easy for us . . . thank goodness . . . Emily now enjoys picking out a different animal to sleep with every day. She only wants one in her bed at a time.

Yesterday when we were leaving the house she had to open up one of her books and leave it open on the couch and sat Little Merm@id on one side and Cind&rella on the other and told me that they were going to read the book while we were gone : ) She also tried to cover up Little Merm@id this morning with a post card and told me she was sleeping . . . the post card was her blanket. Funny girl!

This morning we went to the library to check out an Elm0 DVD on potty training . . . we just watched it . . . I was a little grossed out . . . and laughed out loud at the adults and animals dancing and singing about pee and poo . . . oh the lengths we will go people . . . the lengths we will go.

Family Fun Night

Tuesday night our favorite chicken place had their annual Family Fun night. We met the Eldridges for dinner there (free kids meals!) and then let the girls participate in all the activities. We tried going last year but it rained for most of the night and Emily was really too young to enjoy it anyway. This year she had a good time. As you can see from the pictures . . . it was hot and humid!

Can you guess where we were from the picture:

Emily got her nails painted for the first time. She sat really still but when the girl asked if she wanted a flower sticker on her thumb, she balled her hands into a fist and left blue nail polish all over the palms of her hands. So her fingers have half blue on them . . . and she is still wearing it . . . groovy:She got her face painted again and picked out the same lady bug:They had a lady there that was letting children try out her violins. She offers group violin lessons to children 4 and up. This is Joe's favorite instrument so he was excited about Emily getting to try it out. She was so serious the whole time:

They also had a L0wes booth there where you could make a small craft. We didn't have time for that so Joe picked up her package for her. She got an apron and a kit. She saw the apron and told me she didn't want to wear a life jacket . . . um . . . ok. Anyway, last night Joe and Emily put her box together:

Friends

Saturday night we met with friends to say goodbye to the Eldridges. They are moving back to Alabama in a couple of weeks. If you look closely you'll see that Joe was being a goof ball for the camera : ) When we first moved here 6 and a half years ago, the Robersons had one daughter. We sure have grown . . .

Tonight when Emily got out of her bath she ran to the computer room (which is about to be her room) to watch Joe play his game on the computer . . . she looked so cute I couldn't resist taking a picture:

Fun at the Mountain

Yesterday we went to St0ne Mtn to enjoy all the new fun stuff they have to do there and to watch the famous laser show:

The last time we went here the only attraction they had was the laser show. Now they have a whole "small town" now to walk around with lots of kids activities. We didn't make it to everything we wanted to but that just means we can go back another time.

The first thing we went to was a 4D movie but we only stayed for the first 5 minutes of the show because a bunch of scary fish jumped out of the water and Emily started crying. We didn't realize it was going to be like that. So we walked around to see what other activities we could participate in. We ate dinner and then went to a barn where they have all these levels where you can collect foam balls and then shoot them thru guns down to the other areas:

Joe turned into a little boy for a little bit and had fun chasing around this group of boys and hitting each other with the balls:
while Emily enjoyed just throwing her balls over the side:
We then walked over to the train that takes a ride around the mountain:
By the time the train ride was over the sky lift that takes you to the top of the mountain was closed so Emily and I didn't get to ride that. Joe wasn't sad about that because he wasn't going to go up there with us . . . as he likes to say, "I didn't lose anything up there so no need to go." We found a spot for our blanket and hung out until the laser show started. Joe and Emily enjoyed some ice cream to pass the time:
Emily enjoyed running around and finding other kids she could talk to. This girl is the most social child I've ever seen:
Emily enjoyed the show with us and then we made the trip home. She fell asleep in the car and I don't think she remembered me changing her into her pjs and putting her in her bed. We can't wait to go back another time!!!! Sky Lift here we come : )

Impromptu Time with Friends

Joe ended up taking a few days off of work so yesterday morning we decided it would be fun to go swimming. Several people had mentioned a city pool close to our house where you could pay a daily fee to go. I even looked up the times they were open on line the other night to make sure I knew when they were open. We got up and hit the ground running yesterday morning (a realtor was coming by) getting all our gear together, change of clothes, packed a lunch, grabbed some toys etc and headed out the door. We waddled our way into the facility toting all our gear and I asked the lady at the front desk where we could swim . . . she said, "Oh family swim doesn't start until 2:00 p.m. today. We just have reserved lanes each morning." Well, I felt like the Griswold's driving across country only to find out the amusement park was closed for maintenance. I called another pool that our neighbors go to and they said the same thing . . . family swim is only in the afternoon (so that's why my neighbors never leave for the pool until after lunch!).

So what do we do? We are driving around town with our swim suits on and Emily keeps saying gleefully from the back seat, "we're going swimming today!" We caught a glimpse of how upset Emily would be if we didn't find a pool because we turned on our street for me to grab something from the house and Emily started crying, "but we're going s-s-w-w-i-i-m-m-m-m-i-n-g-g-g-g!!!!" So I called our friends who have a pool in their neighborhood and told them I had a very strange request . . . could we please come hang out with them for a little bit and go swimming . . . I didn't know what else to do. They said sure because they go to the pool every day anyway and would love to hang out. So we met our great friends the Eldridges at their pool. Thanks you guys! Emily spent most of the time sitting on the steps playing with her toys. I finally got her in the water to swim around for a little bit. I can't believe I'm going to show this picture . . . but I am. Please ignore the huge pregnant woman floating in the water:
Joe and Larry got to talking and it turns out their computer had recently died so they made plans for us all to meet at our house for dinner that night so Larry and Joe could build a new computer from all the spare parts we have (thanks for helping clean out the junk in our closet!!!). So that's what we did. Their oldest daughter was at VBS but Amelia and Emily enjoyed playing together last night and the adults enjoyed visiting together:

So our day turned out really nice spending time with great friends! They are getting ready to move back to Alabama soon and we sure are going to miss them . . .

Movies

We went to see our second free movie theater movie this morning. I got a picture of Emily waiting for the movie to start with my cell phone. This was the two minutes that she sat in her chair. She has to sit on the edge or it folds up on her so she spent the rest of the time in my lap . . . and wiggling all over the place. The only thing that gave me comfort was that the air was blowing on me the whole time and she provided warmth : ) This girl ate her snacks like she hadn't eaten in 3 days. She ate all her goldfish, animal crackers, and cranberries before the movie was over. Goodness! It cracks me up because people pull out their chicken biscuits and coffee while waiting for the movie to start sitting next to people with their popcorn and coke. It just looks funny to me.
We have mentioned a couple of times to Emily that this is going to be her bed soon . . . just getting her ready to move her out of the baby bed before baby #2 arrives. Last night she went and got Clifford and got on the bed, closed her eyes, and pretended like she was snoring. She told me she was going to sleep in her bed. Joe was talking to someone on the phone and she asked him to please stop talking because she was trying to sleep! Crazy nut! So I hope this transition goes well. We told her the room isn't ready yet so she will have to keep sleeping in the other room for a little while longer. The glory days of her being confined to her bed when she wakes up in the morning will soon be over for the Wilson household : (
If my Aunt Betty or Alice ever reads this blog . . . then don't continue. Come back in a week or two. I'm mailing this gift to my cousin Alice who just had her 3rd baby but first baby girl. This is another wipes case I made a couple of weeks ago and my first attempt at a fully lined bag. I made it after a bag my sister made me but made it a little bigger to hold all the baby stuff you have to lug around with a newborn. The next bag I'm making will be for me!!!

Happy 4th!

We hope you all had a Happy 4th of July!!! We did several things this weekend so by Sunday afternoon we were pretty lazy . . . but first an update.

Emily has not used any pacifiers for sleeping since Tuesday night! Night time has been easy but nap time has been harder for her to go to sleep. The first two days it took her an hour and a half to go to sleep. But she sang and squeeled and talked to herself so I let her work it out for herself. The rest of the week it didn't take as long to nap. Yea!

Tonight she finally had a small success in the potty department . . . but only because she's been talking for 3 days about getting some M n M's if she went : ) After reading and sitting for about 10 minutes tonight she "accidently" went and we jumped and cheered and carried on like a bunch of crazy folks, she picked out 2 M n M's and then cried because she thought she was going to get to eat the whole bag . . . so goodness knows if we put another roadblock up in this area . . . we'll see. I'm doing things I thought I would never do in this area . . . .livin' and learnin'.

Here's Emily with her new sleeping companion. She is wearing a top that my mom made. I made some shorts to go with them and Emily enjoyed wearing the outfit this weekend:

O.K. now for the weekend events. On Friday night we went to Jazz night at the aquarium:

On Saturday we went downtown to a festival and walked around looking at the different vendors, ate lunch, and let Emily play on the inflatable jump zones and ride a train. Joe got to do his favorite activity which is sit in the heat in the grass and eat festival food (hint the sarcasm).

And finally last night we met some friends to watch the fireworks. This was Emily's first time to watch fireworks:

And to end the evening with a little humor . . . Joe and I took separate cars to church today because I needed to go to a store near church and Joe took Emily home for a nap. He changed her clothes and this is what he chose to put her in . . . I love it! I told Emily, "honey I love what you are wearing" . . . and Joe said, "what's wrong with what she is wearing?" I love my Joe . . . and my Emily!
