Pumpkin Patch

Emily's class went on a field trip today to a Pumpkin Patch.  We met at 10:30 and ate lunch (a snack really), then went on a hay ride out to the pumpkin patch.  We were allowed to pick the small pumpkins and each take one home.  Then we rode the hay ride back for some apple cider.  Abigail tagged along with us and we all had a great time!

Birthday Hat

Abigail celebrated her upcoming birthday at school today.  She came walking out at carpool line wearing her hat!  The teacher said she didn't take it off all morning:
I remember Emily being the same way when she celebrated her 2nd birthday in the same class:
Emily got to bring Lightning the Bear home for the weekend from her class.  He came with a backpack of clothes and a journal.  So we need to take pictures this weekend of his adventures with our family and write a report to add to the journal.  Emily is so excited!

Editing a pattern

I had some fabric that my sister gave me that I wanted to use for the fall because it's a thicker fabric.  But wanted to do more than just an A line dress.  So I took this pattern that I already had:
and looked around on line to see if someone had made something similar with long sleeves.  I found one close to this and read how she made hers with long sleeves:
So I went for it and am proud of what I made!!!!
I added elastic at the bottom so the sleeves would have a small ruffle at the bottom.  Thanks Michelle for the fabric!!!  And this is one of the many reasons I love the internet!  You can look up how to do anything.  I also found a video on how to quickly turn a tube of fabric right side out with a coat hanger!!!!  Made turning the orange strip of fabric in the middle of Emily's dress so much easier.

While I finished making the dress, Emily colored stickers and made cards for each person in her class.  She asked me how to spell each child's name and stuck with it until she had made 11 cards for her classmates and 2 cards for her teachers:
She also told me on the way home from school today that Aidan asked her to marry her and that Maddox was going to marry Ashlyn . . . nice.  I asked, "Aren't you a little young to be getting married?"  She said, "we aren't getting married now.  We will when we grow up."  Well ok then.

And here is this cutie pie typing on my laptop the other night.  This kept her busy for about an hour:

Updating Pants

Last year I bought this fabric that was more expensive than what I normally buy . . . but it was SO CUTE!
So I tried the outfits on the girls the other day and the tops still fit them.  But the pants were too short on both and Abigail's waist and in seam was too tight/short.  So I took some of the pink corduroy I had left over and added a  2nd ruffle to both of their pants:
Then I took Abigail's waist band out and added an inch of fabric to the top to make a new waistband.  This gave her an extra inch in the in seam and I added 2 inches of elastic to the waist:
Now they can wear these same outfits this year . . . yea!

This afternoon I was looking up patterns on line while Emily took her sewing box and made this dress for her doll:
She took masking tape and taped it to the back of the doll to make a dress.  I think she did a great job! I LOVE this girl's imagination:
Abigail wanted to color so she got an ink pen and notepad and started coloring . . . but then after a few minutes I realized how quiet she was being.  I turned around and this is what I found:
She decided her legs were more fun to color than the paper : )

Birthday cards and shiny shoes

Last week, Emily's teacher had a birthday.  Emily came home on Monday and was so excited to tell me that her teacher was bringing a chocolate cake on Thursday to share with everyone!!!!  I could see the sugar high in her eyes.  She wanted to make her teacher a card and wanted to spell out all the words herself.  She did a great job:
She colored all the stickers and put them on the inside of the card:

She has also learned two memory verses since school started and it has been so neat to hear her speak words from the Bible.  I plan to keep that going next year even though she will be in public school.
Emily has been hounding me lately about wanting some "sparkly shoes".  Every time she mentioned these shoes she waved her fingers in the air when she said the word sparkly.  I told her if I found some for $5 or less I would get them for her . . . well she was in luck on Friday:
I needed to buy her some brown leather shoes.  I found them at a store that was having a B1G1 50% off.  These sparkly red shoes were normally $9.99 so I got them with the brown shoes for 50%.  She had to wear them out of the store.  She is going to use them with her Halloween costume this year.

We also took Abigail to get her haircut on Friday.  She did a great job sitting still:
She also decided to write on her face with a pen while grocery shopping:
In sewing news, I embroidered this shirt for Emily.  I bought this shirt on clearance last year for a $1  . . . and voila . . . instant game day shirt:
I also signed up for a bishop construction class.  We blocked it yesterday afternoon and it's now ready for me to start smocking:
It's been about 3 years since I've smocked so I'm taking this dress to a sit n smock in a couple of weeks.  The lady that taught the bishop class has Emily's dress to pleat for me to bring to the sit n smock.  So hopefully with smocking both dresses and then finishing them they can be ready for Easter : )  It's been 2 years since I've taken a sewing class and it felt good to learn something new.
