Snow!
It started snowing late yesterday afternoon. I took these pictures last night of our front and back yard at 7:45 p.m. Looks like we're going to have some accumulation!! First snow of 2008!!!

By this morning most of the snow was gone because it rained most of the night last night. But it sure was pretty!
Emily now has a cold. It started yesterday and she felt pretty bad last night. She seems better this morning so I hope she is feeling better by her birthday tomorrow and the party we are having for her on Saturday!!

Emily's First Haircut
Emily got her first haircut today at Kids Kuts. The back and sides were uneven so she just trimmed them. I didn't get any pictures of the actual cut because Emily was crying the whole time and I was trying to keep her calm while the nice lady cut her hair.
They gave us a certificate with some of her hair on it. I took this picture when we got home.
The certificate says
My First Haircut
This is a real official piece of paper saying that I, Emily Wilson
was real brave and did not scream or fuss too much
when they took me to this place, covered me up with a
sheet thing, and cut my hair!
As of Today, Jan 16, 2008
I am a BIG KID and I am really cool!
One year ago today I worked my last day of work before my maternity leave, and that evening Joe and I went to the hospital so they could begin my induction to have Emily. Little did we know that a day and a half later Emily would still not be here : ) I can't believe it's been a year already.

Crazy Day
There are more transitions going on at the Wilson household. Gone are the glory days of Emily staying home with me while I work. Gone are the glory days of her sleeping from 7:30 to 7:30 and taking two 2 hour naps everyday with no fuss. Yesterday she decided that she wasn't going to take a nap at all and this morning she woke up at 5:00 a.m.! She's been hit or miss on her morning naps which I knew would be going away some day . . . I just didn't count on them going so quickly. So I'm going to transition Emily to one nap in the afternoons. And as of today she will go to Janelle's house and stay there 3 mornings a week so I can work and I will continue to work during her afternoon nap. We'll see how this goes.
I must say I'm a little sad because I wasn't quite ready to do this, but as I'm soon learning children have a way of growing up and changing on you : )
I do have a couple of random pictures to share. There is a funny story with my family that we love to talk about. We give my dad a hard time about it but do it with love and laughter. My dad has the reputation of being a big procrastinator. He used to always go shopping for Christmas on Christmas Eve at the 11th hour. He also used to start getting his taxes together on April 15th and would be one of the crazy people that the postal service stayed open for until midnight on tax day. I must admit that he has gotten better over the years. Anyway, one year when we were all still little kids my dad bought my mom's Christmas present at Big B which is the equivalent of Walgreens or Rite-Aid today. He bought her a bright shiny red purse . . . which is hysterical! We still laugh about it all the time.
This year my sister and I found a red purse at Belk's and wanted to buy it for my mom until we discovered that it was $188.00. Here is a picture of the purse. Tell me . . . who in the world would spend $188 on any purse . . . much less this purse:

Here is another picture of Emily in Sunday school. Looks like she likes puppy dogs more than the Bible that Keenan and Amelia are holding (woops):
And finally . . . my niece Sarah lost her first tooth Friday night. She pulled it out all by herself and said that it did not hurt at all. She wanted to put her tooth in a sandwich bag to make sure it didn't get lost when the tooth fairy came to visit:

Things Emily is learning
We got Emily a baby doll for Christmas. I've been picking up the baby and giving it a hug and saying: "Love the baby". So Emily has been picking up the baby and hugging it. Tonight I asked her where her baby doll was and she crawled over to her and picked her up and hugged her! I think that's so cool!!!
I also asked her where her phone was and she picked it up and put it to her ear and starting talking. She has also taken her comb and brush and tried to comb her hair and this morning she took my comb and tried to comb her hair. She also nods her head "no" when I'm feeding her and there is something she doesn't want. I love it!

My Favorite Baby Doll
At Thanksgiving my sister and brother got up in my parent's attic and found some treasures! One was our baby dolls that Michelle and I had when we were little. Michelle had a blond haired baby and I had a brown haired baby. I love this baby doll! She of course now has some major hair issues:
I remember one time that my brother marked all over her face with a magic marker but the heat from the attic must have slid the ink off because it's not there anymore . . . or my mom found some cleaner to get it off. This baby doll is famous because she played baby Jesus in my kindergarten Christmas play. I was Mary and my next door neighbor John played Joseph.
My sister also found our cats that we played with. Unfortunately we only had one of these so my sister graciously let me have it. I think Mama Kate (a family friend) made this for us. It's a baby cat and mama cat in their own little bed that has attached pillows. I loved playing with them as a child. Don't you love the 70s fabric that it was made out of!
Fun memories! I've got to find some better baby clothes for my doll. I think what's on her now is my sister's robe when she was a baby.

New Year's Resolution
Emily decided with the new year that she was doing away with baby food and moving on to better choices! It is amazing to me how it just happened so all of a sudden. Up until this week I would feed her baby food and then some diced carrots, green beans, or diced fruit just to let her practice eating table food. If I try to give her baby food she just turns her head and she won't even eat her oatmeal anymore. If she can't pick it up with her fingers she doesn't want it. I had to email some friends for some finger food ideas and looked up some ideas on the internet as well and we headed to the grocery store! So this week she has eaten diced up chicken, sweet potatoes, gerber breakfast bar, pasta, gerber chicken sticks, english peas, carrots, green beans, banana, cut up cheese, cut up toast, diced apples, pears, peaches, and cheerios. I thought she was going to explode the other night. It's just so funny how fast it happened. She also tried whole milk for the first time yesterday out of her sippy cup. My big girl! I also bought deli turkey, ravioli, mac n cheese, gerber crackers, pinto beans, zucchini, and cauliflower that I'm going to try later.
Here's a short video of her eating . . . and she eats so fast . . . it cracks me up:
Here's a picture of her plate tonight and she ate every bit of it plus a whole jar of diced peaches:
