Fun weekend

This weekend we helped our friend Riley celebrate her 1st Birthday!:
Riley is a special friend so I really enjoyed making these two dresses for her:
I also learned how to embroider bloomers in the process:

Emily was excited about how old Riley was and since she now knows Riley is 1 and Emily is 2, she asked me who was 3 and 4. So Saturday morning she kept saying, "Riley is 1, Emily is 2, Sarah Anne is 3, and Dagan and Anna are 4. She made sure she used her fingers to show how old each person was.

She also enjoyed playing with the bag of paper clips that I have in the drawer in the kitchen. She lays them all out and then puts them back in the bag. Who knew a 99 cent bag of paper clips would entertain so well : )

Emily is 2 Years and 1 Month Old!

Emily is 2 Years and 1 Month Old Today!
She has learned how to hold her hand up right to say that she is 2. Yesterday morning she walked up to Bud and said, "Hey Bud, Hey Bud" and got right up in his face and said, "Emily is pretty" and then ran to go play! She cracks me up. I guess Joe and I have created a baby girl that's a little conceited . . . but there sure is a fine line between wanting them to feel loved and confident and being conceited . . .

We made a decision early on that we wanted Emily to listen to whatever we listened to on the radio . . . no offense to all you moms that like to do this . . . but I don't want to have to get into the car and listen to kid CD's all the time . . . I just can't do it . . . so Emily's favorite songs lately have been "Hey Mickey" by Tony Bas i l and and "Waterfalls" by T L C. She requests them the second we pull out of the driveway. So although we are a little tired of listening to those songs over and over again . . . it sure beats listening to a chorus of little kids singing Old McDonald over and over : )

Here's a picture of Joe and Emily sharing a snack together this weekend. I personally enjoyed the fact that Emily wanted her daddy to help her with EVERYTHING Sunday afternoon. Joe happily did it because he loves his baby girl:

Monday morning Emily and I were out running errands and I drove past this fabulous looking park. They had a section that was designed specifically for 2-5 year olds. And because we got there early and it was cold outside we had the park to ourselves for the first 15 minutes that we were there. I didn't have her thick coat because I wasn't expecting to be out in the cold that long . . . but that didn't seem to slow Emily down . . . we had so much fun! I took these pictures with my phone:

Sitting in a booth

Yesterday for lunch we went out to eat. Emily wanted to sit in the big booth. So for the VERY first time our little girl sat in the booth instead of the restaurant high chair. She did a good job. I was afraid she wouldn't be able to reach her food but she did. Her permanent expression in all pictures now is the big teethy grin while she is saying cheese. I want to be able to get more "unplanned" pictures of her . . . but right now that isn't possible. Joe took this picture of us with my phone:
We hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day!!!!

Makeup and Bubbles

Yesterday afternoon we blew bubbles in the front yard. Someone from school had passed them out at their Valentine's party.

Here is Emily trying to blow bubbles:
This face is after she tasted the bubbles . . . not too good:
This morning she helped me (like always) with my makeup. She decided that Big Bird needed some makeup on too:
And then she tried to put some on herself. She also tried to put some eyeliner on Big Bird's eyes!
Every day when I watch her do stuff like this I think it can't get any better than that moment . . . and then she'll do something else that makes me laugh or causes me to be amazed. This is such a fun age!

We also got a coupon for a FREE kid's meal at "Chick a Life" as Emily likes to call it . . . so I bet you'll never guess where we went for lunch today : ). This restaurant is the most kid friendly place I've ever been to. Twice now the manager has brought us our food to our table, gave Emily an extra toy, and one of the employees always brings me kid's straws, place mats, and handy wipes for clean up. She also came back later and gave me a refill on my drink . . . love it!

Also for the first time today, Emily noticed the playground there. She's never noticed it before but did today. So I took her in there for a few minutes after our meal. There was only one other mom in there with me and about 10 kids . . . one of the kids was so little she could barely walk . . . I'm thinking . . . where in the world is her mother!!!! Anyway, Emily had a good time and cried when I told her it was time to go. Guess I know what we'll be doing now every time we go eat lunch there : )

I've also been attending some "Sew What" classes where I bought my machine. It's a class where you bring whatever projects you are working on and the instructor comes around to help you . . . and if the topic is something you are interested in then everyone gathers around to learn. We've had 2 meetings so far and have so much fun! We've decided to start meeting on a regular basis. These gals are a lot of fun!

Happy Friday!

Exhibits

This weekend my parents kept Emily for us on Saturday and Joe and I went to the Kng T*t exhibit and the t@rra c@tta warrior exhibit. We also enjoyed a great lunch downtown at S*uth C(ty Kitchen . . . yum! We decided if we were going to spend all that money we wanted to take the time to read all the information . . . and you can't do that with an active 2 year old!!! Emily had a great time with PawPaw and DeeDee and we had a great day downtown. We enjoyed Egypt's exhibit better than China's just because there was more to see in Egypt . . . but both were worth seeing. You couldn't take pictures inside the exhibits so I took a couple of pics outside. Now I want to go to see the pyramids in Egypt!!!

First Piggy Back Ride

Emily had her first piggy back ride tonight. She loved it and kept wanting Joe to walk up and down the hall:
We got her 2 year portraits taken the other day. Here are a few of them:

She is still just as busy as ever. She loves coloring on her new art board we got her for her birthday. She is also wanting more independence in trying things for herself. It still blows my mind all the things she says to me and the things she remembers.
