Injuries and Adventures

After my last post I had an ankle injury.  Last Wednesday I got ready to go to my exercise class and hopped in the van to quickly get the girls down in the cul de sac.  Of course as always I was in a hurry.  I asked the girls to jump in and got out to buckle Abigail.  I stepped off the curb and twisted my ankle so bad that sight and sound started closing in on me and I had to will myself not to pass out.  Instead of stepping off the curb I actually stepped down by a sewer drain so it was at an incline.  Luckily my neighbor was outside and came over to see if I was ok.  He had to drive my van home and help me hobble in to the sofa.  He even set me up with an ice pack and trash can because I felt nauseous.  I called Joe and told him he needed to head home.  My sweet friend Rachel came to the rescue by coming by to get the girls, get their PJs packed in case we were going to be late getting xrays.  I thought for sure my ankle was broken.  Joe wheeled me into an urgent care and the xrays didn't show a break!  Hallelujah!  Only a bad sprain.  But the doctor hooked me up with pain medicine and steroids to get the swelling down.  So for that reason alone I was glad we went to the doctor that night.  Here's a picture of my ankle while we were waiting on xrays:

He asked me to stay off of it for several days and gave me an ankle brace to wear once I could put weight on it.  We got home in enough time to pick the girls up from Rachel's before they fell asleep.  They were so disappointed that they couldn't have a slumber party with their friends!  Joe took off work on Thursday to let me keep my foot elevated.  That was a blessing because I think it really helped in the healing process.  We borrowed crutches from someone at church so on Friday I could get around without putting weight on my foot.

Then on Friday night poor Emily woke us up with a stomach bug so I was so thankful that I could put weight on my foot by Saturday morning to help her.  She didn't move from the couch until Monday morning when I finally got her to eat a little bit of food.  She lost some weight in those couple of days and looked so little when she went back to school on Tuesday.

She was excited to get back on Tuesday because her class had decorated Mardi Gras floats and got to have a parade in the hallways at school.  I was impressed with Emily's float:

That evening the girls lined up their animals so Emily could have a parade and pass out beads and treats to us and all the animals:

On the 14th the girls had fun at their Valentine Parties and came home with lots of cards and treats:
The girls have also had lots of fun setting up their animals for tea parties, watch TV with, and to read stories to:

I also went to my semi annual consignment sale that I participate in and found a bike for Emily and a tricycle for Abigail.  It was beautiful weather Friday afternoon to try out their new wheels.  I was able to get both for $27.  Not bad:
On Friday night we went to the mall because Emily wanted to use the rest of her birthday money to get her AG doll a lunch box.  After her purchase they all ate dinner in the food court.  Her doll ate her dinner out of her new lunch box:
Abigail also got up the courage to ride the carousel for the first time!!!!!! (Sorry the picture is so blurry.  My phone battery was about to die)
We also stopped at the Lego store to get Abigail her first Lego set.  We stayed in this store for over an hour picking out things to get.  Here is Abigail's proud princess purchase:
When the girls got home they wanted to play with their new Legos right away:
When it was time for bed they put "covers" on their new Lego girls:
We had an eventful couple of weeks!  Joe and I looked funny hobbling around the mall with the girls because my ankle was still sore and Joe's back is still bothering him.  We are too old before our time!

Goings on . . .

We have been busy since Emily's birthday party!  Here is what we have been up to.  Mrs. Reynolds found out Emily got an AG doll for her birthday and let her bring it to class one day.  She was so excited:
On the Sunday after Emily's party, I went to a sewing class to make this purse.  It turned out so good that this is my favorite project that I've ever worked on:

I also found a free wallet pattern on line and made this wallet to match my purse.  I was super excited about how it turned out as well.  I put in a zipper and it has 6 slots for credit cards and a place for cash:

Monday was a holiday so the girls enjoyed an extra day at home.  Emily worked on 2 craft projects that she got for her birthday.  Art that you can put on your windows and this music box:

Then the that Friday, we had a bad weather scare so they cancelled school . . . even though no bad weather ever came our way : )  So the girls entertained themselves by lining up all their animals to watch a movie.  Each animal has a coin or ticket to get in to see the movie:
Emily also decided to dress up in the hat and tutu she got from Grandma for Christmas:

On Saturday evening we went to Tara's 40th birthday party!  It was great to see her parents and brother.
The girls also enjoyed putting matching PJs on their dolls and animals:

We also bought Valentine cards so Abigail took her extras and gave each of her animals a Valentine card:

Friday night Emily's school had a chili and Bingo night.  The girls ate hot dogs and we also ate chili:

Emily played Bingo to the bitter end in the hopes that she would win one of the prizes.  She didn't win but learned it was sometimes ok just to play the game.  She did get excited when they announced that anyone that didn't get a prize that night could go to the front to get a jump rope . . . so she didn't go home empty handed:

Birthday Party!

On Saturday we had Emily's birthday party at the house.  We invited 16 kids and all of them came!  Luckily it was pretty enough to go outside.  I never thought Emily could have a birthday outside so this was a blessing.
Emily requested a pinata for this party so we got a Barbie one.  It was the kind where each child could pull 1 string until the candy fell out.

Unfortunately this little girl didn't understand the concept of 1 string at a time and after only 2 kids had a try she pulled all the strings out . . . .
Oh well, the kids didn't seem to mind . . .

After the kids played for a while we had cake.  Tara made this cake for me:

Rachel did some face painting for us:

After face painting Emily opened her gifts:

Emily had a great party with her friends.  Everyone played well together and had a fun time!

Emily is 6 years old!

Emily is 6 years old today!  I can't believe we have been parents for 6 years now.  Emily is such a sweet child and we LOVE her imagination and how she loves to pretend play.  Her favorite things now are Barbies, dolls, Princesses, and she still enjoys playing dress up now and again.  She can entertain herself for hours playing with her toys and is in her own little world.  She is doing really well in Math at school and is learning to read.  We love her sweet spirit.
Because this is her birthday, she has been star of the week at school.  She gets to be line leader and hold the books for the teacher during reading time.  We turned in this sheet about her on Monday to start her week:

On Friday (her birthday) I ate lunch with her and then we went back to the classroom and I read "There's a Wocket in my Pocket" to the class.  Emily helped me pass out cupcakes and then the class sang Happy Birthday:

Emily chose her favorite chicken restaurant for her birthday dinner.  The server brought her an ice cream sundae for her birthday:
On Friday night we told her she could take her birthday money that came in the mail from grandparents and aunts and uncles, and we would help her buy an American Girl Doll.  She was so excited that we had to leave right after dinner to head to the store.  She picked Emily:

Emily came with some accessories and then she also bought Emily's dog with her allowance money.  It was a fun birthday!

Sharing a Room

My sister was able to bring the matching twin bed to our house tonight.  So the girls are now able to share a room.  These beds were my dad's beds growing up, then my sister and I used them as kids, and now my girls get to share a room together we these beds.  They are super excited and I am too!
