More Play Time

My guilt has subsided this week from spending so much time packing and unpacking and not spending as much time with Emily because we've had so many guests over lately. Emily has thoroughly enjoyed playing hostess! Last night our friend Taylor came over while her mom was at a meeting. They had a blast together even though there is a 6 year difference between them:
Then this morning Emily's school friend Julia came over to play with us. They ran from room to room spending about 60 seconds on each activity:

Here they are refueling for some more play time:
When it finally warmed up a bit we went outside:
and even ate our lunch at the patio:
Emily didn't want to see either guest leave. Thanks guys for coming over to play! We enjoyed it!

Time with Old and New Friends

Saturday night the Lydas came over for dinner. Emily LOVED playing hostess to Riley and showing her all her toys:
Tonight after dinner we went walking around the neighborhood. Emily wore her T*nkerbell flip flops with her frog shirt and T*inkerbell wings. She spent the evening collecting leaves:

When we got back to the house there were several kids at the end of the cul-de-sac playing, so Emily said she wanted to "say hi to those kids". So we walked down there and met lots of other neighbors and their children. One of the little girls is 2 months younger than Emily. They had fun running around and chasing the dogs that were out. Emily had a blast and didn't want to go home : ) We are thankful that it seems we live in a really friendly neighborhood.

And to end the post, here is a way too cute picture of Emily and her daddy:

Friday is better . . .

Well on Monday we had the blues . . . but by Friday all our repairs were done. The roof leak turned out to be the dryer vent had come loose on the roof and it had caused sheet rock damage in the laundry room . . . with mold included! So we had that repaired and got the hole in the ceiling repaired. Joe just has to paint the sheet rock repair:

You can hardly tell there was a repair to the ceiling:In other news I actually sewed this week for the first time in well over a month! I made a diaper bag and wipes case for Baby #2 (poor thing still doesn't have a name):
. . . and speaking of Baby #2 . . . we are three weeks away from our scheduled c-section. Unless she comes early, we will be in the hospital with our new baby girl 3 weeks from today!

Monday Blues

Well we had a little bit of unwelcomed excitement at our house today . . . but I guess a life like this will keep you on your toes. This morning I washed a load of towels and put them in the dryer. When I turned it on it sounded like water was swooshing around . . . well that's not good. So I turned it off and started looking around. I noticed a water stain going horizontally across the wall. Then I looked up and saw a water stain at the top of the wall. I didn't know if it was the washer lines behind the wall that were leaking . . . or if we had a roof leak. So I called Joe. He said it sounded more like a roof leak and it must be coming from the dryer hose going up thru the roof . . . great . . . so he came home for an early lunch to check it out.

As he was walking thru the attic, I was walking up the stairs and saw what you don't want to ever see coming thru your ceiling . . . a big black booted foot sticking thru it:
Thank goodness Joe didn't come all the way thru the ceiling . . . but his whole foot sure did. He got a nice gash on his leg to go with it:
. . . and what he thinks might be a cracked rib. Good times . . . so we have a roof leak . . . and a hole in our ceiling : ) And I had a full load of towels that were wet . . . so I've got them spread out all over our house to dry.

We called the guy who fixed the leak at our OTHER house not too long ago and he said he could be here about 3:00 today. He called me at 2:15 to say he was on his way . . . but by 4:15 he still wasn't here because they had completely shut down the interstate and the main Hwy leading to our house because of flooding. The traffic was so bad that it took him that long to get that far to determine that there wasn't going to be a way to get to our house today : (

Because of that road closing it took Joe 2 hours to get home tonight. The schools are closed tomorrow too. The repair guy is going to try to get here tomorrow. We hope our leak will hold off until he can get here.

So how was your rainy Monday?

More projects

This weekend Joe replaced all the faucets in our bathrooms! The ones that were in the house were so short that we kept bumping our hands against the back of the sink. So we picked these out and Joe replaced them. Here he is hard at work . . . he doesn't know I took this picture : )

In other news Emily has continued to enjoy playing dress up:And this weekend we got her some new PJ's. When we got them home I had to wash them right away so she could wear them tonight. She looks so big!
This girl loves all the princess stuff . . . but she is also OBSESSED with the "wacecars" movie and book that we have. She asks to watch this movie at least once a day . . . I can now quote Mater.

Her grandmama went to the beach last month and got this frog shirt for Emily . . . and of course she had to wear it as soon as possible too : ) Thanks Grandmama! Emily loves her shirt!

Painting the Nursery

This weekend we painted the nursery. We spent all week last week trying out different colors and FINALLY settled on a bright green on Friday night. Having the samples to buy and try is nice . . . but man . . . we could have bought a gallon of paint after all those samples I kept going back to get. We started with neutral browns, and then some pinks, and then after talking to my brother and emailing him pictures to his phone, we settled on green. I do like the color we settled on.

We realized early on that Joe is much better and faster than me at rolling, so after just a few tries of rolling the primer on, we decided quickly that this was NOT going to be my job : ) I basically taped the room off, cut in on the primer and paint on the bottom sections of the room . . . and Joe basically did the rest. We bought Emily a little brush during one of our many trips to the paint section and she carried that brush around for 3 days! She wanted to make sure she was ready to paint when we gave her the chance. I set her up Saturday morning at her art easel with some of the sample paint and her paint brush:

Here we are all hard at work.
Once Emily got bored with painting she discovered the blue tape roll and kept asking us every 30 seconds for a new strip of tape! So by the end of the morning she had her easel covered in blue tape . . . but hey . . . it kept her busy.

And here are the glorious before and after pics. We wanted to go with a color that could be used as a nursery and then used as a guest room in a couple of years. So I hope you feel bright and cheery in this room if you ever come for a visit to our house!

Before:After:
Here is the bedding I picked out that DeeDee shipped to us . . . it looks so weird to have the crib mattress up high again:And guess what . . . after spending a little over a week in her big girl bed, guess who came to greet us in our room at 3:00 this morning! I woke up to the sound of little feet running on the floor and then a little head poking over the side of the bed saying, "Hi Mommy" like it was 3 in the afternoon. I told Emily it was still night time and she needed to go back to sleep. She gave this worried look and said, "But my door was open". We always close her door when she first goes to bed but open it up once she's asleep to keep it cool. I guess all the other nights she didn't wake up until morning and when she saw her door open she thought it was time to get up. We both looked out the window together and she saw that it was still dark out and got back in the bed. So no major drama . . . I hope it stays that way : ) She greeted us for the first time on Saturday morning and it was so weird to have a little person climbing in the bed to tell us good morning. She didn't come to our room until 7:45 . . . I can live with that. On Sunday she greeted us at 7:00.

She also opened a door for the first time the other day. If it's a door she can push she seems to be able to do it. But if she has to turn and then pull on the door she can't. She also turned on her own light yesterday morning and then turned it off! My baby is getting so big. I know this seems late for a child her age but she couldn't reach the lights at our old house but can here. I sure do like it since I don't want her hollering at me at the top of the stairs to turn on her room light. My next accomplishment is going to be getting her to put her shoes in her closet and getting them out. She's got to have more practice opening and closing doors. For now her shoes are in her room and she's good about getting them or putting them back.

Weekend Activities

We painted the nursery this weekend but I want to show before and after shots once we get all the furniture moved back in . . . so those pictures will be posted later. I just wanted to show some fun pictures from this weekend and today.

Joe and Emily had fun on the tractors at the store while I was getting some paint supplies:

This morning Emily wanted to dress up in some play outfits my mom had given Sarah several years ago (and they have now been passed down to Emily). She dressed up 3 different times and this is the one she wore for most of the morning:She also helped me put together 2 bookcases this morning. She really was a big help. We are using these small shelves to store stuff in the office closet. I figured I would try to put it together myself since Joe has so many other things he has to put together at night when he gets home. Emily and I put 2 of these together this morning . . . thank you very much!!!
I also put this together last night for her room:
I'm quite proud of myself since Joe is usually the one to put all this together. But I've been so frustrated not being able to do a lot of things because of my pregnancy (I like to just do stuff myself if something needs to be done), and when Joe gets home he has his list of "to do's" that I can't move or put together or get to, etc. But these I did . . . yea!
